Francesco Venezia, in a conference delivered in 2009 entitled La separazione fatale perfectly describes an event that, according to him, marked the decline of contemporary architecture. This moment was the one that separated archeology from architecture as two independent disciplines and in many moments almost antagonistic. On the other hand, working in heritage contexts is the opposite, it means uniting this separation with a double reality: a current, contingent one, immersed in contemporaneity; the other universal, eternal. The project of inhabiting heritage requires the development of this double nature. It is not about putting value for a visit, but about inhabiting it. Therein lies the projectual and material relevance of the intervention. To make some patrimonial elements coexist with the daily life of a family.

The housing program on the first floor (the ground floor belongs to another property) is developed with a central piece (living room) from which two wings emerge where the bedrooms are located. Access to these rooms is through two steps through the mud wall. From this floor, a light spiral staircase leads up to the roof. Everything revolves around the spiral staircase: you go under it, you go through it to the bedrooms, you go up to the roof plan… and the light enters through it.
